Planning a change in direction

Have you ever wrestled with decisions over a path you should take, a change in direction or what you consider to be a natural progression? It's not easy, but it's very satisfying when you finally reach and are happy with your decision.

I've been in the wedding industry for over 20 years, and, as a DJ, I've had a very succesful career. I travelled Europe and became a local celebrity as Chris Cavell when I settled in Yorkshire and then reinvented myself in the USA. I've been lucky! Then again, maybe it was just the hard work and dedication, the preparation and planning that afforded me success?

Now, after hours of deliberation, soul searching and the sleepless nights, where I ran many different scenarios, I'm finally ready for the next step. I am finally hanging up my headphones and will look at weddings differently. I will be looking, not as a DJ, but at the complete picture. I will be planning and bringing together all the pieces of the puzzle, that will fit together so perfectly, creating the perfect day for the bride and her groom.

I relish the challenge.

As a disc jockey, I have been loved. I've felt the appreciation and I made friends along the way. I've seen so many people join together, watched them grow as man and wife, and I've seen the babies, the children of the happy couple as they become a complete family. I am so grateful.

I could not turn away from this industry, it's been so good to me and it continues to bring excitement, week after week. I'm ready for whatever is in front of me and I cannot wait to get started!

A review to be proud of...

From Lindsey. See the original on Wedding Wire:

People often say the DJ will make or break the reception. This is so true.

We initially had another DJ, but five weeks out from our wedding, my fiance went to a wedding he did and said it was awful. I panicked, but that was when we found Chris. After talking with him, we knew immediately we wanted him to be our DJ.

After our first face-to-face meeting only a week before the wedding, we felt very confident in Chris and were very excited. We told him exactly what we want. We're both young and wanted our reception to really have a party atmosphere where everyone danced. We had people of all ages present.

Leading up to the wedding, Chris was very open to last minute changes and responded to emails quickly. He was very helpful in figuring out little details concerning the reception. He made it very clear that he would listen to anything we needed.

The day of he was AWESOME. He was there and set up on time. The music he played during desert set the mood nicely. While we were going around talking to people, he came up and let us know it was getting late, and that we should probably cut the cake soon. It was nice to have Chris keep things on track. For the toasts, he handed a mic to the best man and maid of honor unnoticed.

The music was great. He listened to all our requests, and blended songs seamlessly together. People of all ages danced all night. My dad danced quite a bit, which is very impressive for a man who never dances. There were a couple times when my husband and I stopped dancing and Chris would come and check on us and make sure we were still doing well. We both had such a great time.

After the wedding, we got so many comments. Everyone loved Chris and many said it was the most fun wedding they had ever been too. His accent is great and everyone thought he talked just the right amount of time.

A DJ makes or breaks the reception. If you want a fun reception, I cannot recommend Chris highly enough. You will be so glad you went with him!

DJ Chris Grumley -- Anna Maria Island’s Top DJ

Last night, my wife, Maria, and I finally had a chance to enjoy an evening out together. With the kids off in different directions, we had a rare chance for some grown up conversation and a “grown up dinner.” We decided on The Sandbar Restaurant as it was such a nice evening out and we wanted to watch the sun set over the Gulf. We could not have asked for nicer evening – the ocean breeze, the bright orange sun disappearing behind the aquamarine water, it can't get much better. At that point, I realized how fortunate I was to be with the girl of my dreams.

I have been a DJ for over 20 years and met Maria back in England when she asked me to play something for her at a party. Still today, my work as a DJ is as much fun as it was when I started. I love being part of a very special day in peoples’ lives, and, to add the backdrop of the Gulf of Mexico makes it that much better.

As with all weddings, the reception is the celebratory part of the day. To make sure it is as fun and exciting as you imagine a beach wedding on Anna Maria Island to be it is essential that the music and food be the key parts of the festivities. The one thing that I can handle is the music. My job is to work with you to create the perfect atmosphere. I do a lot of behind the scenes preparation to meet your needs and give you the best day ever – one that your friends and family will talk about for years to come!

To give you a quick idea of what I do to help you prepare, we talk about your ideas and what you want to happen at your reception. We discuss the atmosphere, the style of music, and how you want the day,or evening, to proceed. I bring with me everyhting I need to make the event a success and I promise that I will never nickle and dime you over lighting packages or anything that jacks up the price. You pay my fee and I perform as a true and very professional DJ.

Because I love my job so much, my clients are always very satisfied with what I do. I have such an eye for detail that I go the extra mile for you. Please take a moment to read some of the great things my clients have to say about their Anna Maria Island weddings. This is definitely a testament to my abilities as a DJ and my commitment to you to do my part on the most special day of your life.

As we watched the sun go down, Maria looked out at the water and turned to me and said “No wonder so many people want to get married on the beach. Look at it!” And that is true. There is nothing like it and I can’t wait to be part of it again and again.

He sounds believable...

By Jenny...

"If you are in the early stages of planning a destination wedding and if you are looking at, or have already decided that Anna Maria Island is the place for your destination wedding then use this as a resource. Anna Maria Island is known as the wedding capital of the Gulf coast.

Chris Grumley is a husband, dad, dj, amateur photographer, voice over guy and fitness freak. If he had to write something about himself, it would take far too long, hardly contain any information and would leave you wondering. As it is, Chris saw sense and let me do this bit. Who I am bears absolutely no significance, I just know him really well and I speak the truth.

Chris is a regular guy but he has a talent, or should I say talents. He's a fabulous DJ and is requested to host the biggest event on Anna Maria island, Bayfest, every October. Bayfest draws a crowd of between five and 10,000 people and is a sight to behold. Chris is also batch booked by a busy and very smart wedding event planner. They might, at any given time, book Chris with four or even five dates, giving themselves one less thing to worry about whilst keeping this DJ very busy.

Chris is also a voice over guy with one really unique talent that is built in. When Chris speaks he sounds believable. That's simplicity itself, he doesn't have to try, it just comes naturally. I'm analyzing that talent with a marketing background, because, if I had a message to get out to the masses, wouldn't it be better to have a voice that was naturally believable delivering said message?

Chris also takes pictures. They are not the kind of pics we generally like to see, unless we are buying a house. Chris takes pictures for real esate and markets property for Realtors.

At the end of the day, you have many choices to make over who takes the pictures, bakes the cake, provides the flowers, prints the invitations etc. You really don't have to think to long about who you want to have DJ your wedding, because, in all honesty, if you want it done right, if you want the best night and want to dance yourself dizzy, you want an DJ that makes sense of the whole event, you want Chris Grumley."

Anna Maria Island Destination Weddings.

By April Khan...

Many engaged couples choose to host their weddings in the beautiful serene Anna Maria island. Anna Maria island is one of the most scenic places to host memorable beach weddings. The island is located right off the southwest coast of Florida north of Sarasota. People who plan destination weddings in Anna Maria island are surprised at the many packages available to accommodate their guests and to ensure they have the best wedding and reception experience possible.

The packages usually include flowers, cake and clergy. Some even include the wedding attire for the bride and groom and a photographer or videographer. However, many of these packages don’t include a disc jockey! This is a potential disaster for couples who planned a first dance, not realizing a dj isn’t provided. In order to have a truly memorable wedding, you need an Anna Maria DJ to play all of the music your guests will enjoy. However, not just any DJ should do—it is important to choose the right DJ.

Local disc jockey Chris Grumley is boasted as a friendly and hardworking wedding disc jockey who takes pride in his career. He is meticulous in planning his set for any event he’s booked for, in addition to taking extra care of wedding sets. In fact, DJ Chris Grumley sometimes takes an entire day of prep to ensure the wedding he’s booked for is perfect. As a married man of 12 years, he also understands the importance of the ‘big day’. If you’re planning your wedding in Anna Maria island, be sure to call DJ Chris Grumley to take care of your wedding music needs.

Snoop Dog is a Lion!

Snoop Dog is an icon and has been at the top of his game for around these past 20 years. Who doesn't know of or hasn't heard a Snoop track, even of you're not a fan. Everybody, it seems to me, knows of Snoop Dog. Well, that's all changed and here's the story.

Snoop has been inspired to create a reggae album but he hasn't done this halfheartedly. Snoop went on a mission to Jamaica and received a blessing from Bob Marley's son Rohan. He also formed a bond with the Niyabinghi branch of the Rastafari movement, according to sources at M.T.V. Diplo and Major Lazer were brought in but production was kept to a minimum. The album is called Reincarnated and the first single, La La La, is out now.

What do you think about the Dog transforming into a Lion and his claim that he is the reincarnated Bob Marley?

I ran today ;)

There's something real about running and it's difficult to explain. I'm not seasoned, I am a recent convert to the act of pushing yourself out of the door into what is already 78 degree still air. I started, with a good friend of mine, with an app called C25K, (couch to five k if you need it breaking dowb;)) We are now at 25 minutes without a break after a five minute warm ou. We started with a 60 second jog followed by a three minute break initially, so we fee we have come a long way...

I have subscribed to runners world magazine for the longest time, without ever feeling the urge to lace up my shoes, but the app was way to interesting and I had to look and see. It was definitley the key to our early foray, the interval way forward, and now I'm using a different app and I feel liberated. I read a sign/poster of Pinterest and it carried the Nike swoosh. It said, "Just do it... Even if you suck, just do it." That's about where I am right now, but it's getting better ;)

One of the best things about our schedule is the fact that it gets me up and out of bed early. The sun is just about waking up as I head out the door and it's on it's way up as we come down hell road, (I'll save that for later). I have my iPhone with me becuase my music is on there and I can take pictures during our cool down. Taking a picture of the sun rising after completing a 25 minute jog/shuffle feels great.

A DJ's life in parardise...

There's something unique that you can't quite put your finger on about Anna Maria Island. It's like nowhere else on Earth and if there is ever going to be a time for me to leave this place, it will be a sad day. Three completely different cities, nestled into a one mile wide by seven miles long sand bank. Who is there to even tell us that we shouldn't really have made this our home, and it's been home to many since the early settlers at the turn of the 2oth century.

Anna Maria Island - Paradise ;)
